The history of the Net.ObjectDays

In September 1999 the 5th symposium on Smalltalk and Java in industry and education "STJA ยด99" took place under relevant participation of the tranSIT GmbH Ilmenau.

From the unification of the STJA conferences with the JavaDays, JIT and DJEK in the year 2000 the Net.Objectdays was accomplished for the first time out. The name "Net.ObjectDays" was selected, because therein InterNet and software development and the procedures belonging to it are visibly illustrated.

The tranSIT GmbH was charged with the organization of this events. The large approval, which the Net.ObjectDays 2000 met with, confirmed the organizers - like also the tranSIT GmbH Ilmenau - to arrange the Net.ObjectDays in the years following on it too.

Aims and mission

The Net.ObjectDays represent a suitable platform both for theoreticians and architects and for practical men, who must live with concrete defaults and basic conditions. In the conference, all aspects of the development of object oriented and component oriented systems are supposed to be illuminated. A multiplicity of scientific and application orientated presentations and tutorials is supplemented by "Invited Talks" of internationally well-known experts and trendsetters. In addition the conference offers the possibility for thematic related Workshops. Apart from the lectures the conference is enriched by an exhibition, which offers a comprehensive overview on development environments, tools and applications to the participants.

The topic spectrum of the Net.ObjectDays reaches from theoretical bases over object-oriented concepts and technologies generally up to reports from the concrete practice of the use of object-oriented technologies or languages as Java, C# and Smalltalk. In addition the expansion of the topics around E-Commerce, XML and agent technologies allows for the increasingly drastic influence of the internet on methods of the timely software development.

Goal of the conference is the open and critical discussion with these current topics, which is to illuminate and promote also the alternative J2EE vs. .NET and use conditions of different Java, C# and Smalltalk systems. Finally the world-wide advance of the Internet means new challenges for the developers of object oriented technologies.

The Net.ObjectDays are producer-independent and understand themselves as a discussion platform for developer, user, as well as scientist and students. They cover conferences and workshops with respectively independent program committee, tutorials, an exhibition with manufacturer lectures as well as expert contributions and keynotes of internationally renowned experts out of science and industry.

Thus the Net.ObjectDays address itself

  • to the ambitious developer
  • to the researcher or developer, who uses object-oriented modelling
  • to the researcher or developer, who uses the possibilities of the Java platform or of Smalltalk comprehensively
  • to the student
  • to the programmer, who needs the most current versions in the growing together fields out of databases, XML, Java, enterprise application servers, encryption, scalability
  • to the user of systems, which are embedded in Java, or in the Multimedia production
  • to the pioneer, who would like to exceed the limits of object-oriented methods, and who is interested in aspect-oriented methods
  • to the decision maker, who appreciates a qualified first hand estimation of the current technologies and trends.
